SNJM Oregon Province Foundresses
circa 1859

Since their arrival in the Pacific Northwest in 1859, the Sisters of the Holy Names (SNJM) have striven to meet educational, social and spiritual needs in the communities where they live. As educators, the Sisters know the importance of looking to the past to help shape the future. From their very first day in Oregon, as well as in their subsequent foundations in Ontario, New York, California, and Washington, the Sisters kept Chronicles, eyewitness accounts of daily happenings and significant events. The Holy Names Heritage Center houses these writings as well as the century and a half of U.S.-Ontario Province history.

The Holy Names mission of education and community partnership has shaped the vision for the Heritage Center. A multiuse building, the Center engages the public through research opportunities, educational programs, and facility rental. A welcoming place to gather, share and make memories, it celebrates the relationships the Sisters have forged, introducing visitors to this rich heritage and encouraging them to be a part of its future.

For more information on the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, U.S.-Ontario Province, visit their website. This site has links to all of our regional centers and sections for friends.

Holy Names Heritage Center is a partner of the Oregon Historical Society.
